Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium at Mersey Primary Academy

Our Strategy

As a large percentage of children join the Nursery with lower than average starting points, a significant amount of funding is spent in EYFS and KS1 to ensure we diminish differences to age related expectations as soon as possible.

The personal development, behaviour and welfare of our pupils’ remains a priority in order to ensure children are ready to learn and have the strategies and support to overcome barriers to learning.

As children move through the academy, the pupil premium funding is focused on continuing to diminish differences to National expectations, particularly for the most able disadvantaged pupils.

At Mersey Primary our pastoral care and rigorous monitoring and tracking of all pupils helps us to identify any pupils that may be at risk of not making sufficient progress. This enables us to plan and implement the appropriate intervention strategies.

The summary of the range of activities and interventions that the Pupil Premium funded in 2015-2016 can be found below. This included some new and discrete activities as well as interventions that we have always employed that are known to support pupil progress and attainment. Some have cost implications and others have required time within staff meetings, teacher training and staff time to research theory and current pedagogical developments in education.
